Lions Club of Imphal observes United Nations Day

Lions Club of Imphal, Lions International District 322D, observed United Nations Day, 2024 at its Service Centre in Sangaiprou today.
It was attended by Lions Club of Imphal president O Ranjit, Dr W Gopimohan, H Manikumar and other members of the club.
The celebration began with the offering of floral tributes to the founding member of the United Nations, said a release.
Delivering the keynote address, Th Imomacha Singh said that owing to the failure of The League of Nations to prevent 2nd World War, the idea of a new world body was given a serious thought and the then President of the United States FD Roosevelt was the first person to use the term United Nations in 1942."Eventually, the UN was established on October 24, 1945 .
The Lions Association was one of the non-governmental organizations invited to draft the UN Charter", he added.
As part of the event, the 32nd State Level Debating Competition for Students was held on the topic, "Enigmatically, Manipur has been embroiled in ethnic strife.
The intervention of the United Nations Human Rights Council must now be a water-shed of normalcy in the state".
The team championship trophy was lifted by Maria Montessori School while the runners up trophy went to DM College of Arts.
Hijam Pritam Meitei of DM College of Arts won the individual 1st prize, while Thoihenbi Maibam of Maria Montessori School and Ria Tongbram of Camps' English Academy won 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Niranika Senjam of Maria Montessori School and Alina Khundongbam of JNV Khumbong.
Prof Chinglen Maisnam HOD, South East Asia Studies, Manipur University was the speaker while Dr Premananda Yumnam, HOD, Department of Law, MU; Dr Sapam Dilip, Asst Prof, Department of Law, Manipur University and Dr T Deepamanjuri Devi, Asst Prof, Department of Sociology were the judges.
