RIMS observes World TB Day

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, observed World Tuberculosis Day 2026 today at the OPD Block organized by the Department of Respiratory Medicine, RIMS, Imphal.
As per a press release, the event was held in alignment with the global theme, "Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Bharat, Powered by Janbhagidari".
The programme was graced by Professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, Imphal, as the chief guest, in the presence of Pro fessor N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, Imphal, as the president, along with Dr Sunanda Haorongbam, Professor and Head, Department of Respiratory Medicine, RIMS, Imphal, and Dr Irom Ibung Singh, Professor, Department of Respiratory Medicine, RIMS, Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, the RIMS Director stated that World Tuberculosis Day, observed on March 24, raises awareness about TB and control efforts.
Globally, TB affects about 10 million people, with India contributing 2.7 million cases, while Manipur bears a high burden.
Under National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP), measures include early detection, free treatment, Nikshay Mitra support, case finding, digital tracking, and a patientcentric approach.
Priorities include awareness, treatment adherence, and community participation, with healthcare workers crucial to achieving a TB-free India.
The observance was organized with the objective of enhancing public awareness about tuberculosis, with particular emphasis on its prevention, early detection, and effective treatment.
During the event, Nikshay Mitra food baskets were distributed.
The programme witnessed the participation of the Deputy Director (Admn), Dean (Academics), Heads of Departments, the Principals of the Dental College and College of Nursing, faculty members, officials, staff, students, patients, and members of the public.
