International Day of Sign Language observed

As observed across the globe, All Manipur Association of Deaf & Mute celebrated the International Day of Sign Language at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul.
The celebration was graced by Social Welfare Minister, Heikham Dingo; Social Welfare Department, Deputy Director, L Dhaneshwor and social activist Rohan Philem as Thangjam Jimmy as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Heikham Dingo appreciated All Manipur Association of Deaf & Mute for celebrating International Day of Sign Language to raise awareness about the rights of the deaf community and other sign language users.
"The idea that no one is perfect and challenges are part of life can help people embrace imperfection and grow as individuals", said the Minister while urging people with disabilities to not be discouraged and continue to work towards their goal.
He also announced plans to introduce a Sign Language News Programme on local news channels to ensure accessibility for the deaf and mute community.
"The Department is also working on developing a mobile application for sign language to enhance communication for the deaf and mute community", he added.
Further, Heikham Dingo assured that the Social Welfare Department will take necessary steps to strengthen the support system for people with speech and hearing impairments.
