Imphal, April 23 2026:
As in previous years, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed Khongjom Day at Congress Bhavan at BT Road, today.
The main highlight of today's observance was the offering of floral tributes to the portrait of Paona Brajabashi.
Speaking at the event, former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi recalled the courage and resilience of Manipur's ancestors, who, despite being fully aware of the military might of the British, chose to resist rather than surrender.
Khongjom Day is observed every year to pay tributes to brave Manipuri warriors who laid down their lives to protect the sovereignty of Kangleipak in the Anglo Manipuri War.
He stated that today's generation must never forget the bravery of the Manipuri ancestors.
Ibobi also emphasised that people should always possess the spirit of never surrendering when it comes to defending their motherland.
