Kumbi, Thoubal schools felicitate HSLC and Higher Secondary achievers

Bishnupur/Thoubal, May 18 2026: Educational institutions in Kumbi and Thoubal organised felicitation programmes to honour students who excelled in the HSLC and Higher Secondary examinations conducted by BOSEM and COHSEM.

At Kumbi, Youth for Kumbi organised a felicitation ceremony at the campus of Yaima Model Girls High School to honour 18 students under the title "Super 18" .

The programme recognised 16 students who successfully passed the HSLC Examination 2026 and two students who secured compartmental results.

The event was attended by School Management Committee (SMC) secretary Meikam Shamungou, chairman Kh Joychandra, local educationist N Mohin and school headmaster W Hero as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Headmaster W Hero said Yaima Model Girls High School is one of the oldest educational institutions in Kumbi Assembly Constituency.

Established in 1972 as a government-aided school exclusively for girls, it remains the only girls' school in Kumbi AC till date.

He stated that although the school had produced numerous students over the years, it stopped appearing in the HSLC examination from 2012 due to its deteriorating condition and severe waterlogging during rainy seasons, which disrupted classes and created difficulties for teachers and students alike.

According to the headmaster, the school gradually ceased functioning in 2013 because of recurring floods and waterlogging.

However, with the efforts of the School Management Committee and teachers, repair works began in December 2022 and classes resumed in 2023 .

He further stated that the outbreak of ethnic violence in the State again disrupted academic activities, while the school premises were later used as a relief camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs), who continue to stay there till today.

Despite these challenges, the school authorities revived academic activities by utilising two available rooms and restarting admissions for Classes VIII and IX in 2024 .

This year, all 18 students from the school appeared in the HSLC examination, of whom 16 passed while two secured compartmental results.

Expressing confidence that the two students would also clear the improvement examination, W Hero said the school currently has 30 students, with 15 students each in Classes IX and X .

He appealed to the Government and concerned authorities to address the infrastructural and academic needs of the school and also expressed gratitude to Youth for Kumbi for organising the felicitation programme.

As part of the event, the students conferred with the "Super 18" title were presented gifts and cash incentives by Youth for Kumbi.

Meanwhile, Paradise English School (PES), Thoubal Okram, also organised a felicitation ceremony at the school assembly hall to honour meritorious students who secured positions and high marks in the HSLC examination conducted by BOSEM and the Higher Secondary examination conducted by COHSEM .

The programme was attended by Thoubal Municipal Council Ward No 1 Councillor Okram Inaotombi Devi, ANDOK president Luwangcha Chingkhei.

School Management Committee president Lisham Achou Singh, Kangleipak Students' Association president Seram Hemjit, Okram Youth Club secretary Okram Inaobi Singh and PES advisor Yumnam Pratap Singh as presidium members.

The event also honoured past achievers of the school with gifts in recognition of their accomplishments and as encouragement for continued academic excellence.
