The Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long/Tangkhul Youth Council (TMNL), Nashira Area People's Organisation (NAPO) and Katho Katamnao Long/Katho Students' Union have condemned the "baseless FIR" filed by one Lungoulen Guite against Ashang Kasar, chief advisor of Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur CIPFM) at Kangpokpi police station.
The FIR was filed in connection with the remarks made by the social activist during a broadcast of Impact TV's Manung Hutna on March 12.In a press release, TMNL has called for immediate withdrawal of the FIR .
It cautioned that any action that is perceived as vindictive or ill-considered during such a sensitive period risks aggravating tensions and precipitating avoidable unrest.
It has viewed the filing of the FIR by Guite as unfortunate and unnecessary.
Stating that such actions only risk creating further misunderstanding and tension among communities, TMNL cautioned that filing of the FIR may have the potential to incite communal unrest under the pretext of legal action.
TMNL also maintained that Ashang Kasar's remarks were made in the context of urging proper verification of the identity of the deceased before any official announcement or administrative action being taken.
They were a call for responsible handling of a sensitive matter and should not be criminalized, said TMNL .
Meanwhile, NAPO has condemned the FIR filed by Guite in the name of "Thadou Inpi-Sadar Hills" stating that invoking.
BNS Section 196 and 353 (2) is unwarranted.
The claim that Ashang Kashar's remarks were false and misleading is unfounded, said NAPO .
Also condemning the FIR, Katho Katamnao Long termed "Thadou Inpi-Sadar Hills" as a fraudulent and unrecognized proxy outfit which appears to be fuelling division and seeking political gains.
If there is a genuine intent to resolve the ongoing issue, the FIR should be revoked immediately, it demanded.
