Tarong village declares Lungshietram wildlife conservation site

In a significant step towards protecting wildlife and preserving the natural environment, Tarong village of Kamjong district has agreed to designate an area known as Lungshietram located within the village as a Wildlife Conservation Site, with a complete ban on hunting, trapping, capturing or harming birds and wild animals in the area.
The decision was reached following a comprehensive environmental awareness campaign conducted at Tarong Village, with the conservation initiative being undertaken by environmental and climate activist Jojo Robertson under the banner of the Jojo Robertson Foundation, beginning August 15, 2026.The initiative seeks to conserve and protect wildlife habitats, preserve native plants and trees, safeguard biodiversity and promote greater awareness of the importance of living in harmony with nature.
As per the declaration, individuals from Tarong village, neighbouring areas and outsiders have been strictly prohibited from engaging in hunting, trapping, capturing or harming birds and wild animals within the designated conservation site with immediate effect.
The village authority appealed to all sections of the public to respect and support the conservation initiative and extend cooperation towards protecting wildlife, biodiversity and the natural environment.
