International Writers' Meet observed

Imphal, December 15 2025: Apunba Khorirolgee Malemgee Lup in collaboration with Waikhom Leikai Athletic Club (WLAC) observed the 4th International Writers' Meet 2025 was observed today at Singjamei WLAC Ground today.

The observance was graced by Apunba Khorirolgee Malemgee Lup president Waikhom Amuchou Meitei and Ningthemcha Sana Yaima as the president & chief guest respectively.

Khagokpam Khamba Singh, fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) and retired Additional Chief Engineer (Electricity); Nongmaithem Kirankumar, former Convenor, Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi; Kh Munan Singh, president, WLAC; and social worker RK Nongdrenkhomba also graced the event as guest of honours.

Speaking on the occasion, Sana Yaima said that Malemgee Lup and WLAC have taken a good step by organising the International Writers' Meet to promote literature and support the professional development and rights of writers.

He asserted that literature and performing arts have a significant impact on society, they serve as a blueprint for human life and civilization, allow people to express themselves and connect with one another.

"Manipur boasts a vibrant literary heritage, a tradition significantly shaped by numerous esteemed writers and poets who have consistently mirrored the State's profound cultural, social, and political ethos", he added.

Expressing concern over the erosion of culture & tradition, Ningthemcha Sana Yaima called on the writers/poets of the State to come up with literature pieces that will help preserve & promote the unique cultural heritage and identity of Manipur.

During the event, awards were presented to four outstanding individuals as part of the 79th birthday celebration of Ningthemcha Sana Yaima.

The 'Wakma Meengthol' was conferred on Dr Kshetrimayum Subadani, 'Shangbannaba Khoriloy Meengthol' was presented to Dr Longjam Sharatchandra, 'Khorilolgee Leichal Meengthol' to Sagolsem Mohendro Singh and 'Thougal Khonga Meengthol' to Huidrom Othelo.

A poem recitation session was also organised with Bijendrajit Telem as the moderator.
