Thoubal, September 15 2026: A one-day discussion programme to preserve the sanctity of Umanglai Haraoba rituals on the theme 'Umanglai Kansi, Kanglon Chumna Haraosi' was held today at Thoubal Ningthou Lainingthou Lairembi complex at Thoubal Nongangkhong.

The discussion programme was organised by Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) Thoubal Branch.

UKAL vice-president Moirangthem Jilangamba; general secretary Mutum Maniton; Manipur University of Culture (MUC) Department of Umanglai Haraoba Associate Professor Dr Thounaojam Ruhichand and Thoubal Ningthou Lainingthou Lairembi Selungba T Binoy attended as the presidium members.

Notably, five representatives each from 35 Umang Lai complexes in Thoubal district took part in today's discussion programme.

Speaking at the programme, UKAL Thoubal Branch Convenor Ningombam Rajen Meitei said that the discussion programme is organised as per the directives of UKAL Headquarters ahead of 'Mera Meepham', a state level discussion programme on Umang Lai Haraoba rituals across the State.

Similar discussion programmes are held in other parts of the State focusing on streamlining Lai Haraoba rituals so as to preserve the sanctity of the ancient traditions and practices.
