Grievances of Ex-servicemen, families would be addressed: CM

Imphal, October 14 2014: 'The state government would take steps to provide assistance to the dedicated ex-servicemen and their families by identifying the problems facing them'.This was stated by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi during the Ex-Servicemen (ESM) rally organized by Red Shield Division at Leimakhong Millitary Garrison today.

During the Rally participated by Ex-Servicemen, their spouses and children from across the state, the chief minister said a number of youths of Manipur have been serving in Indian Army to protect the country and over 250 of them are in Officers rank.

The chief minister, who is the chief guest of the function, added that the state government has already initiated steps to grant financial assistance of Rs.1200 per month to war veterans of World War-II.

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh lauded the efforts of Red Shield Division in getting together the Ex-Servicemen under one umbrella.

The Chief Minister released a booklet on 'Welfare Schemes by Central Government /Army' which covers various schemes/ benefits given to Ex-Servicemen by the Central Government.

Apart from the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai Devi, Lieutenant General Bipin Rawat, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, GOC Spear Corps; Major General PM Bali, VSM, GOC Red Shield Division, Major General Rajeev Chopra, IGAR (South) along with other Civil and Military Dignitaries attended the Rally.

Lieutenant General Bipin Rawat, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Spear Corps, expressed that welfare of Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris and World War �II veterans will be given top most priority.

He stressed the need for wide publicity of various Central/State/Army welfare schemes for the Ex-Servicemen and mentioned about recently released Bi-Annual News Letter for Ex-Servicemen.

The 'Red Shield Division', with its slogan 'Humaare Haath Aapke Saath' with its resolve in helping out the Ex-Servicemen fraternity of Manipur got together the State Administration and corporate houses with 46 Stalls for the Ex-Servicemen.

Ex-Servicemen were registered on the recently launched 'Indian Army Portal for Ex-Servicemen'.

There was a special presentation made for the Ex-Servicemen on various Welfare Schemes available for the Veterans.

As part of helping out the Ex-Servicemen, a modified Scooter was presented to Sepoy Bhim Singh Karki, of Senapati Brigade as part of Special Mobility equipment by Veteran Cell, Integrated Headquarters of MoD (Army).

A New Delhi based NGO, Flag of Honour Foundation presented cheques to selected Ex-Servicemen as financial assistance to meet their requirements.

The gifts given during the felicitation ceremony included Computers, Weaving Machines, Blankets, Sports equipment for children apart from various other items.

A special screening of the Movie 'Mary Kom' was also done for the Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris and their families on 13 October 2014.The Rally concluded with vote of thanks by Brig Anil Hooda, Deputy General Officer Commanding, Red Shield Division.

The rally was conducted by Red Shield Division on October 13 and 14 at Leimakhong Military garrison.
