Jiribam women bodies seek clarification on MLA's brother remark

Jiribam, September 14 2026: A joint press meet of prominent women bodies of Jiribam was held today demanding accountability of an alleged remark made by Sahab Uddin, brother of Jiribam AC MLA regarding deletion of voters in the recently published Final Photo Electoral Roll.

The press meet was jointly convened by Women Association For Socio Economic Development (WASED), All Jiribam Meira Paibi (AJMP), Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL) and Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) at AJMP office today.

Addressing the media persons, WASED president N Nibharani alleged that Jiribam AC MLA Md Achab Uddin's brother Sahab Uddin made a remark on social media platforms regarding the deleted voters of Jiribam thereby drawing a communal angle.

She maintained that in the recently published final photo electoral roll data, the total voters of Jiribam stands at 28,337 after the deletion of 1774 voters.

Regarding the deleted voters, Sahab Uddin made a social post wherein he implied that the deletion of voters has been carried out targeting the muslim voters, Nibharani expressed serious concern over such remarks which may trigger unwanted communal tensions.

With reference to the post, Nibharani urged that Sahab Uddin should refrain from making such baseless remarks and demanded that he issues a clarification regarding his remarks by September 15 failing which he will be held responsible for any untoward outcome.

If needed, legal help will be sought, she added.

She further questioned the agenda behind the statement of Jiribam AC MLA Md Achab Uddin that the deleted voters can apply for inclusion in the electoral roll again since the voters have been deleted as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines and sought a clarification regarding the same.

Today's press meet was also attended by JIMPAL president L Bimola, AJMP president S Sushila, AMKIL President A Ashangbi Devi and WASED general secretary Y Ragini Devi among others.
