Manipur Independence Day celebrated

The 80th Manipur Independence Day was observed across the State on Friday with patriotic programmes and tributes to freedom fighters.
Dalit Sahitya Academy Manipur marked the day at Manipur Press Club, Imphal with a felicitation programme held as part of the yearlong observation of Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar's 135th Birth Anniversary.
The event was attended by Chongtham Sanjoy, national secretary, BDSA India; Dr Y Mahendrakumar Singh, Member, Bar Council of Manipur; Dr Kh Iboyaima Singh, Mutum Robindro, Dr Th Inaocha, Haobam Chitra Devi and Nirmala Rajkumari as presidium members.
Recipients of the Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar National Award 2026.Malaysia Golden Star International Award 2026 and Indian Young Star Award 2026 were honoured with gifts' and citations for their contributions.
Meanwhile, Democratic People's Front, DPF Manipur observed the day at the residence of late G Tonsana Sharma in Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai.
Similar observances were also held by the Joint Action Coordination Committee.

The celebrations were marked by the hoisting of flags bearing the symbol of Ibudhou Pakhangba, raising of unity slogans and offering of floral tributes to the martyrs.
