1,500 runners take to streets in 5th 'Run Chandel Run' marathon

Imphal, March 14 2026: The Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the District Sports Association Chandel and Wisecabs, successfully hosted the 5th edition of the "Run Chandel Run" marathon today under the ongoing Operation Sadbhavana initiative.

As per a release issued by HQ IGAR( South), the event saw approximately 1,500 participants, including senior officials, troops, residents, students, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts, gather to celebrate fitness, sportsmanship, and community spirit.

Held under the inspiring theme "Run Strong, Run Proud, Run Chandel Run", the marathon featured multiple race categories designed to encourage broad participation: Below 16 Years (5 km), Open Category (5 km & 10 km), and Above 45 Years (5 km) .

The 10 km race commenced from Heibunglok village, while the 5 km race started at Thoruwl Turf.

All events concluded at the District Sports Complex in Chandel Christian village.

Senior officials of the Assam Rifles officially flagged off the marathon from Pallel Garrison.

To incentivize participation, the first 500 registered runners received event T-shirts.

All finishers were awarded medals and certificates, and winners across all categories were presented with cash prizes, with the 10 km Open Category champion receiving Rs 10,000 .

Comprehensive medical, administrative, and technical support was provided throughout the event to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the day's activities.

The marathon concluded on a highly positive note, successfully reinforcing the bond between the security forces and the local community while inspiring residents to embrace healthier lifestyles.
