International seminar on "Critical Interdisciplinarity" conducted

A two-day international seminar on "Critical Interdisciplinarity : An Intersection of Cultural, Language, Literature and Society" kicked off today at the VC Court Hall of Manipur University, imphal.
The seminar was organised by the Department of English and Cultural Studies, Manipur University with the support of Alumni Association, Department of English & Cultural Studies, Manipur University.
The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, former Minister of State for External Affairs, India; Prof N Pramodini Devi, Dean, School of Humanities, Manipur University; Prof Mousumi Guha Baherjee, Director, English and Foreign Languages (EFL) University, Regional Campus, Shillong; and Prof Irom Gambhir Singh, Head, Department of English & Cultural Studies, Manipur University.
Speaking on the occasion.
Prof Irom Gambhir said that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes interdisciplinary education to break down rigid subject silos, promoting holistic learning, critical thinking, and adaptability for 21 st-century challenges.
"It allows students to create integrated knowledge, moving beyond traditional subject boundaries to solve complex problems and prepare for dynamic careers", he added.
He also asserted that adopting an interdisciplinary approach to syllabus and curriculum design is crucial for creating a more effective and relevant education system.
Notably, delegates from across Manipur and neighbouring States such as Assam and Mizoram are participating in the two-day seminar which is being held in hybrid mode (both online & offline) .
