Different activities, competitions, programmes mark 128th Patriots Day observation

Imphal, August 13 2019: In view of the observation of Patriots' Day across the State, various clubs, organisations, armed forces carry out different activities and programmes to mark the 128th observation of the day.

Heingang United Clubs Organisation (HUCO) organised Patriots' Day celebration as well as the 10th Meritorious Award Function at Saya Ground, Heingang Awang Leikai today.

A total of 29 students who scored high marks in the Class X exam conducted by BOSEM, 6 students from CBSE (for Class X), 24 students of science streams who scored high marks in Class XII exam conducted by COHSEM, 2 for Arts stream and 4 students of science stream of AISSCE Class XII, 2 International sports players, 19 National sports players and one State graduation toppers were felicitated during the event.

Speaking at the event, Minister of PHED, Printing and Stationery L Dikho stressed on the importance of Patriots' Day observation and explained that the day is celebrated in honour of the brave patriots who gave their lives for the motherland.

It is important for the younger generation to remember and know the contribution of the forefathers of the State, he said.

As a part of the event, Minister L Dikho as well as other presidium members including Adhyaksha, Imphal East Zilla Parishad P Bimola Devi, Director of Social Welfare and Minority Affairs Dept Ng Uttam Singh, Director Fisheries Dept Bidyarani Ayekpam etc planted tree saplings in the surrounding areas.

Units of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) observed Patriots' Day, as part of various events which were conducted in the entire area of responsibility of the Sector in remembrance of the patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891.Tulihal Battalion organised a motivational lecture on 'Patriots Day' at St John's English High School followed by flag hoisting ceremony by students at the school premises.

A two minute silence was observed in remembrance of the departed souls.

Likewise, Thoubal Battalion also observed the day by conducting events at Elite Foundation Academy, Peace and Freedom Academy, Thoubal and Guidance Club Siphai Leikai, Yairipok.

The event included flag hoisting ceremony and paying of rich floral tributes to the martyrs of the war, said a statement of IGAR (S).

A stage drama was also performed by students of the Academy based on the theme 'Anglo Manipur War of 1891'.Various games and competitions were also organised including a drawing and painting competition for the children, it added.

On the other hand, Artist Training cum Educational Research Centre organised 5th State level Patriotic Song competition 2019 at Leimayol Arts Centre in Singjamei Chingamakha today.

Laishram Boby of 6-Potshangbam Zilla Parishad, Imphal West, State Teacher Awardee as well as advisor, Women Against Crime Soubam Sobita, chairman MEIPA Company Maheshwar Thounaojam and Artist Training cum Educational Research Centre president Laitonjam Premkumar attended the function as dignitaries.

Altogether 43 people participated in the competition.

In a separate event and in connection with the observation of patriots' Day, Life Savers Manipur in collaboration with HDFC Bank, Imphal, State Blood Cell-NHM Manipur and Shija Blood Bank & Transfusion Services, Langol organised a blood donation camp at Shija Blood Bank & Transfusion Services Langol complex today from 10 am till 1 pm.

A press release issued by managing director of Life Savers Manipur stated that floral tributes were paid to the photos of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal general by blood donors and Shija blood bank staff.

It expressed profound gratitude to all the blood donors on behalf of LISAM and Shija Blood Bank & Transfusion Services.

Meanwhile, Khundrakpam Kendra Youths Organisation (KHUKYO) observed Patriot's Day at its office in Yumnam Khunou today.

KHUKYO president L Sanjit, social activist Th Bijen presided the function.

Speaking at the function, Bijen urged all to safeguard and protect the land and the integrity of the State as a sole responsibility of each and everyone living in the State.

L Sanjit further stated that paying floral tributes and homage to the freedom fighters of the State can only be made meaningful when the present generation uplift the one thing that the brave forefathers fought for and protect the land.

On the other hand, Kanglei Enat Thang-Ta Shindam Sanglen Kongpal Chanam Leikai organised 128th Patriots' Day at KETTSS hall today.

A press release issued by secretary KETTSS stated that cultural activist L Sanjoy lit the inaugural lamp while Thang-Ta Guru W Sunita Leima also attended.

Meanwhile, the 128th Patriots' Day was observed by Bharat Swabhiman (Trust) & Patanjali Yog Samiti, Imphal West along with Chingtham Leikai Patanjali Yoga Centre at Haobam Marak Chingtham Leikai community hall today.

A press release issued by Zilla Prabhari, Bharat Swabhiman (Trust) Imphal West district stated that the Prabhari, Yoga teachers, Yoga lovers and players of the trust/Samiti of Imphal West paid floral tributes to the heroes of Manipur who fought bravely against the British regime during the Anglo-Manipur war 1891.As in other parts of the state, United Club, IMC Ward No 4 observed the 128th Patriots Day at the premises of Progressive Youth Organisation (PYO).

United Club president Khwairakpam Tarunkumar spoke on the importance and values of observing the day.

PYO vice-president Lourembam Surjit, Uripok Sorbon Thingel South RIMS Women Welfare Association general secretary Lourembam (o) Kiranmala and several other members of the club participated in the observance function.

Meanwhile, Kongba Youth Organisation paid homage to the freedom fighters of the State today to mark the observation of Patriots' Day.

Prior to this, tree plantation drives were carried out at the surrounding areas of the Leikai, in collaboration with Bamon Kampu GP war no 6 member, since August 11 .
