Moirang, May 13 2026:
In a mo ve aimed at promoting sustainable forest-based entrepreneurship, the Bishnupur Forest Division, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bishnupur, organised a three-day intensive training programme on mushroom cultivation for forest-based artisans.
The training programme, organised under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme, focuses on the scientific cultivation of mushroom and Split-gill Mushroom (Schizophyllum commune), which is witnessing growing market demand.
The initiative seeks to empower local artisans and unemployed youth by equipping them with technical skills necessary to convert agricultural and forest waste into a sustainable source of income.
Speaking at the valedictory function, Waikhom Romabai, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Bishnupur Forest Division emphasized that the RAMP programme has been designed to bridge the gap between traditional forest based skills and modern MSME standards.
She said the initiative aims to transform forest-dependent communities into self-reliant entrepreneurs and highlighted mushroom cultivation as a high-return and low-investment opportunity suited to the ecological and economic landscape of Bishnupur district.
The RAMP Scheme, a World Bank-assisted initiative of the Central Government, is being actively implemented across Manipur to strengthen the MSME sector.
By focusing on forestbased artisans, the Bishnupur Forest Division is working to ensure that the benefits of industrial growth reach communities residing in and around forest areas.
The program concluded with the distribution of certificates and cultivation kits to the participants.
The Forest Department and KVK Bishnupur have pledged continued support for the trainees, including assistance in registering under the Udyam portal to avail further government subsidies and financial credit.
