Hectic preparations underway for Barak Fest

Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming 4th State Level Barak Festival 2025, one of the most prominent cultural events for the people of Senapati district.
Celebrated annually, the festival is jointly organized by the District Apex Bodies - Naga People's Organisation (NPO), Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA), and Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) - in collaboration with the five major tribes' frontal organizations and their subordinate bodies at the local level.
The State Level Committee includes Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, along with other state secretaries, the District DC and SP, and presidents of the district's frontal organizations.
This year's celebration will be held at Ziiilipou, located on the eastern side of Maram Don Bosco College near New Maram Village, from December 12 to 14, 2025.Observed in honour of Mother Barak River, the festival holds immense cultural and spiritual significance for the five major tribes of Senapati District�Poumai Naga, Mao, Maram, Thangal, and Zeliangrong.
The river, originating from Liyai Village, flows through the hills and valleys of the district, sustaining the land and people of all five tribes.
The three-day event will showcase traditional cultural performances, dances, and rituals of the five tribes, highlighting their shared heritage and unity.
Cultural troupes from other districts and even across the State have also been invited to participate in the event.
Indigenous games, food stalls serving authentic tribal cuisines, and exhibitions of traditional crafts will also form part of the festivities.
Major highlights include a Film Festival, Literature Festival, Photography Competition, Barak Trekking, and the 5K & 7K Barak Run, all aimed at promoting the district's rich cultural diversity and artistic talent.
Adding to the excitement, the much-awaited "Barak Rock" Concert will feature performances by popular bands from within and outside the state, along with opportunities for local artists to showcase their musical skills.
The event will also include the Barak Miss Contest, open to participants from across Manipur and beyond.
To enhance the visitor experience, a camping site with tents will be set up along the scenic Barak River bank, offering a unique outdoor adventure.
The organizing committee has extended a warm invitation to everyone to join the festival in a spirit of unity, joy, and cultural pride.
