Release of 109 high-yielding crop varieties by PM webcast at ICAR RC NEH, Manipur Centre

The ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region (ICARRC NEH), Manipur Centre organised the live webcasting programme for the release of 109 high-yielding, climate-resilient and biofortified varieties of crops by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at its premises in Lamphelpat today.
The 109 high-yielding, climate-resilient and biofortified varieties of crops released by the PM during an event held at the India Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi included 34 field crops and 27 horticultural crops.
Among the field crops, seeds of various cereals in cluding millets, forage crops, oilseeds, pulses, sugarcane, cotton, fibre and other potential crops were released.
Among the horticultural crops, different varieties of fruits, vegetable crops, plantation crops, tuber crops, spices, flowers and medicinal crops were released.
The webcasting programme held at the ICAR RC NEH, Manipur Centre was graced by Regional Centre, Head, Ramgopal Laha; Senior Scientist, Dr Kh Rishikanta and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) Imphal West, Head, Dr L Kanta among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramgopal Laha expressed his joy over the release of 109 high-yielding crop varieties by the PM and lauded the scientists & experts of ICAR for the hard work in developing the crop varieties.
He asserted that the rapid increase of population and urbanization has led to a continuous loss of agricultural land across the country.
"Thus, ICAR have been striving to develop high-yielding varieties of crops to meet the need for the increasing population", said Ramgopal while adding that the Manipur Centre had also recently released high-yielding varieties of mushroom and brinjal.
He continued that these new varieties will be highly beneficial to the farmers as they will help reduce their expenditure and also have a positive impact on the environment.
Furthermore, Ramgopal assured that ICAR will continue to work for the welfare of the farmers and urged all the farmers to avail the benefits of various programmes/projects initiated by ICAR from time to time.
Felicitation of farmers under Doubling Fanners Income (DFI) and distribution of agricultural inputs were the other highlights of the event.
