Govt urged to declare first Nupi Lan day holiday

The first Nupi Lan of 1904 was remembered at the office premises of the Universal Mothers' Organisation (UMO) at Lamphel Khunou today.
The event was organised by the Universal Mothers' Organisation (UMO) and Achiba Theatre Association.
UMO president and World Human Rights Protection Organization (North East) president Moirangthem Sorojini Leirna; National Media Confederation convenor LM Sana; World Human Rights Protection Organisation's International great grand crown chairman, Dr Loijingchingsanglakpa Nameirakpam and Kangla Phamthou 64 secretary Lalchanba Moirangcha attended the event.
The gathering paid floral tributes to women who took part in the Nupi Lan.
Speaking on the occasion, UMO president Moirangthem Sorojini Leima underscored the significance of the first Nupi Lan, and urged the State Government to give the historical event due recognition and declare it a State holiday.
The First Nupi Lan was a historic women's uprising in Manipur that took place in July 1904 against British's oppressive colonial forced labour.
