Swami Sivananda Saraswati remembered

The 138th birth anniversary of yoga guru Swami Sivananda Saraswati was celebrated today at Mahatma Seva Ashram in Konthoujam, Imphal West district today.
The celebration organised by Swami Sivananda Charitable Trust was graced by Dr Sinam Rajendra, former Head, Department of Urology, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and DL Kabui, president, Kabui Dharma Sabha, Manipur as dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Swami Sivananda Charitable Trust founder Heisnam Mitreshwar said that Swami Sivananda Saraswati is renowned for reviving yoga in the modem era by founding the Divine Life Society, writing over 300 books, and teaching a "yoga of synthesis" that integrates all known yoga systems, influencing yoga practice worldwide.
He emphasized the need for the present generation to discuss Swami Sivananda Saraswati's philosophy which offers practical tools for world peace through the promotion of inner peace and holistic development, emphasizing that peace begins with the individual.
"Swami Sivananda's teachings advocate for practices like proper exercise, breathing, relaxation, proper diet, and meditation, all grounded in Vedanta's ethical principles and a spirit of selflessness", he added.
Mitreshwar also asserted that the Divine Life Society, founded by Swami Sivananda, continues to spread these ideals globally, providing a framework for cultivating self-awareness, service, and a balanced life that contributes to a more peaceful world.
Kh Ranadhir, Dr M Nodyachand and Swami Sivakrishnananda also delivered memorial lectures on the topic, "World Peace according to Swami Sivananda" .
