World Lung Cancer Day observed with awareness programme at Thoubal

The DIAMOnDS Project, Department of Pathology, Department ofRadiation Oncology and Department of Respiratory Medicine, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, in collaboration with the District Health Society, Thoubal, observed World Lung Cancer Day with an awareness programme at the DEIC Hall of District Hospital, Thoubal, on Friday.
The inaugural function was attended by Additional Director (MHS) and State Nodal Officer, NP-NCD, Dr Y Premchandra Singh as the chief guest, while Prof Dr Sushma Khuraijam of the Department of Pathology, RIMS, presided over the programme.
Chief Medical Officer, Thoubal, Dr Krishnachandra Luwang, and Medical Superintendent of District Hospital, Thoubal, Dr Kh Robindro Singh, attended as guests of honour.
As part of the programme, Prof Dr Irom Ibungo Singh of the Department of Respiratory Medicine, RIMS, delivered a lecture on "Lung Carcinoma and its various sampling techniques", while Prof Dr Babina Sarangthem of the Department of Pathology spoke on the diagnostic aspects of lung carcinoma.
Associate Professor Dr Laishram Pumima of the Department of Radiation Oncology highlighted the disease burden of lung cancer and its treatment, and District Nodal Officer (NCD and NTCP), District Health Society, Thoubal, Dr M Bikramjit Singh, delivered a presentation on tobacco dependence and treatment guidelines.
A panel discussion moderatal by Prof Dr Gayatri Devi Pukhrambam of the Department of Pathology, RIMS, was also held.
The discussion featured Dr Kh Robindro Singh, Dr Laishram Pumima, Dr Sushma Khuraijam, Dr Y Premchandra Singh, Dr Linthoingambi and Dr Khuingaren Sario as panellists.
The awareness programme was attended by around 150 health professionals, including Medical Officers, Community Health Officers, MBBS interns and pathology staff of RIMS .
