Senapati, April 08 2026:
The Naga Students' Federation (NSF) has strongly condemned an alleged incident of brutal physical assault, death threats and extortion targeting two members of the Naga community from Tseminyu district, Nagaland, who were reportedly engaged in legitimate livelihoodactivities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Federation expressed "unequivocal outrage" over the incident, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of March 23, 2026, between Keithelmanbi and Sapermaina under Kangpokpi.
The NSF said it has taken serious note of what it described as a disturbing pattern of recurring intimidation and violence against innocent Naga civilians.
It observed that such incidents reflect the persistent harassment faced by common citizens, particularly those dependent on daily trade and inter-district movement for survival".
Emphasising the Naga community's long-standing commitment to peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, the Federation stated that such "cowardly acts of violence and lawlessness" threaten the fragile fabric of harmony in the region.
The Federation also expressed solidarity with the victims and extended support to the Rengma Students' Union (RSU) for its firm stand in defending the rights and dignity of its members.
Calling the incident a direct challenge to the resilience of the Naga people, the NSF urged the authorities to take immediate and decisive action to identify, apprehend and prosecute those responsible.
It further demanded concrete measures to ensure the safety and security of civilians and prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The Federation cautioned that failure to deliver justice and implement safeguards may compel it to initiate stronger measures in defence of the rights and security of the Naga people, reiterating that such acts will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Meanwhile, the Mao Students' Union (MSU) also strongly condemned the alleged assault, intimidation and unlawful extortion carried out against civilians along the National Highway between Kangpokpi and Motbung areas.
In a statement, the MSU termed the incident deeply alarming, stating that such acts continue to be carried out with impunity against peace-loving citizens engaged in legitimate livelihoods.
The victims, it said, were unlawfully intercepted, harassed and physically assaulted by unidentified miscreants.
The MSU described the incident not merely as a criminal act but as a direct assault on human dignity, fundamental rights and the fabric of civil society.
It further alleged that repeated occurrences point to a failure of law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety.
Expressing solidarity with the victims, the MSU extended full support to the Rengma Students' Union and all affected Naga communities, reiterating that such acts of violence and intimidation will not be tolerated.
