More weapons surrendered, recovered across state

Imphal, March 08 2025: Security forces recovered a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives during extensive search operations conducted in multiple districts on Saturday, police said.

In Sekmaijin Hangul, Kakching district, security forces recovered 5 firearms, 3 grenades, 14 tear smoke shells, 1 bulletproof helmet, and other riot control equipment, along with miscellaneous items.

From Thawai Kuki village, Ukhrul district, 4 mortars, 2 country-made guns, 2 motor bombs, and various empty cases of ammunition were recovered.

Additionally, two illegal bunkers were destroyed in the area.

In Bidyanagar, Jiribam district, the operation led to the recovery of 4 firearms, 132 live cartridges, 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 27 bulletproof jackets, 3 helmets, and 5 communication devices.

At Chingkhei Ching, Imphal East district, security forces recovered 1 magazine, 31 rounds of ammunition, 4 grenades, 1 RPG shell, 1 mortar shell, and 11 bulletproof jackets along with suspected explosive materials.

From Senam, Tengnoupal district, the operation resulted in the recovery of 5 firearms, 4 mortars, 2 hand grenades, 2 launching tubes, 82 rounds of live ammunition, and multiple bulletproof jackets.

A large number of arms, ammunition, explosives, and other war-like stores were also voluntarily surrendered by the public, and recovered by security forces across various districts of the state on Thursday, the last day of the deadline given by the Governor.

The police control room reported the developments in its press release on Friday, which followed its Thursday's press release.

At 8th IRB CDO Khabeisoi under Heingang police station, Imphal East district, two firearms, three grenades, 41 rounds of ammunition, two launchers, one telescope sighting device, one tear gas gun, and two walkie-talkie sets were surrendered.

At Kalika Naharup, Pangong Laitembi road under Irilbung PS, one firearm, two grenades, 13 rounds of ammunition, and one magazine were recovered.

At Pukhao Terapur under Sagolmang PS, one firearm, one grenade, five cartridges, one grenade-type explosive, and one magazine were recovered.

At Thoubal Dam under Thoubal PS, a total of five firearms, 13 explosive devices, four radio sets, nine radio chargers, five pairs of jungle shoes, one round of ammunition, one IED, 13 bulletproof jackets, three raincoats, and one camouflage coat were surrendered.

Six firearms, four magazines, one mortar, three detonators, eight gelatin sticks, two hand-held radio sets, and one gunny bag were recovered from Shantipur and Nepali Basti under Loktak PS, Bishnupur district.

Four firearms, 70 rounds of ammunition, and seven empty cartridges were recovered from Kuki Tophou village under Senapati PS, Senapati district.

Nine firearms were also recovered from Ankhasuo village under Pherzawl PS, Pherzawl district.

Five firearms, one rocket with a launcher, eight explosive devices, 20 rounds of ammunition, one kg of explosive material, one mortar, one wireless set, four bulletproof jackets, one bulletproof helmet, and eight tear gas shells were recovered from Ankhasuo village under Churachandpur PS, Churachandpur district.

One firearm, two magazines, 24 rounds of ammunition, nine detonators, one wireless set, one wireless charger, two bulletproof helmets, four bulletproof vests, one bulletproof plate, two pairs of military shoes, and ten mattresses were recovered from Langathel Hangoipat in Thoubal district.

In the southern part of Chandel District under Chakpikarong PS, a total of 21 firearms, 32 explosive devices, 71 rounds of ammunition, four hand-held radio sets, three radio chargers, and four bulletproof jackets were recovered.

Four bulletproof plates, two hand-held radio sets with three batteries, one detonator, one megaphone, and one 50-meter-long cable roll, along with various uniforms and shoes, were recovered from Pelyang village under Machi PS, Tengnoupal district.

Meanwhile, on Friday, a combined team of central and state security forces conducted a search operation at Sekmaijin Hangul under Hiyanglam PS, leading to the recovery of a large cache of arms, explosives, and other war-like stores.

The operation was launched based on reliable inputs from the 33 Assam Rifles and was carried out by a combined team of the CDO unit Kakching, one column of the 33 Assam Rifles, and a team from Hiyanglam PS.

During the search operation conducted from 9 pm to 10:15 pm, security forces recovered five firearms, two ammunition boxes containing a total of 24 live rounds, seven grenades, one launcher, 14 tear smoke shells, three other explosive shells, one bulletproof helmet, two rice bags, one piece of cotton cloth, and four black polythene sheets from a secluded area near bushes where the items were hidden inside two rice bags.

A case has been registered at Hiyanglam PS .
