Breastfeeding awareness programme held at Thoubal

As part of the observance of World Breastfeeding Week 2026, D-Tampha Health Care, Thoubal Nongangkhong, organised a one-day breastfeeding awareness programme at Thoubal Ningombam Luxmi Bazar Community Hall on Friday.
The programme was held under the theme "Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works" .
Retired Chief Medical Officer of Imphal East, Dr Ksh Manglem, attended the event as chief guest, while District Family Welfare Officer, Thoubal, Dr Khumukcham Trust; retired Joint Education Director Akoijam Kesho; Ningombam Apunba Meira Paibi Lup president H Nganbi; and secretary I Subhasini were present as presidium members.
Speaking as the resource person, proprietor of D-Tampha Health Care, Dr Ph Nishikanta Sharma, highlighted the health benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and infants.
He also stressed the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for ensuring the healthy growth and development of children.
Addressing the gathering, retired CMO Dr Ksh Manglem observed that despite numerous awareness campaigns, many mothers are still unaware of the importance of initiating breastfeeding immediately after childbirth.
He stressed the need to educate women about the benefits of breastfeeding even before marriage so that they are well-informed before becoming mothers.
He further said that motherhood and breastfeeding are natural aspects of a woman's life and urged women not to feel hesitant or embarrassed about breastfeeding, while calling for greater public awareness to promote healthy infant feeding practices.
