Kakching, August 07 2024:
The aggrieved students of Kakching Higher Secondary School staged a protest rally today against the shortage of adequate teachers and lack of infrastructure in the school.
Later the students submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Kakching demanding adequate teachers in the school for the well-being of the students.
Notably Kakching Higher Secondary School is among the schools listed for School Fagat Hansi Mission aimed at improving the condition of Government schools in the State.
Speaking in connection with the protest, a Class XII Science student named Okram Francis highlighted that the school which has a strength of around 1000 students is struggling due to shortage of teachers.
He maintained that the school has only 42 teachers at the moment out of the 70 assigned teachers.
Due to acute shortage of teachers for various subjects, the students are not getting the desired education hampering their academic atmosphere in the school, he remarked.
Another aggrieved student, Salam Sonia of Class XI Commerce stated that apart from the shortage of teachers, the school is facing difficulties due to lack of proper facilities for library, laboratory and other eminent facilities.
In addition to the above, there is no adequate nonteaching staff such as lab attendants, sweeper etc which are essential for the efficient functioning of the school, she said.
She expressed discontentment that no positive measures have been taken up till date despite the submission of a number of memorandums to the Education Minister, Education Commissioner and other relevant officials.
She also mentioned that an order was issued on July 25, 2024 for the posting of three teachers in the school however the said teachers have not joined the school yet.
Considering the immense difficulties faced by the students, they were compelled to launch class boycott agitation from July 29 last, she added.
Sonia went on to state that the authorities concerned have not addressed the issues of the school which imply that the Government and the relevant authorities do not care about the students and their well-being.
She cautioned that intense agitation will be launched along with their parents/guardians of the students if the relevant authorities fail to fulfil the demands of the students.
