EIIFF-2025 kicks off with cinematic fervour

Imphal, February 06 2025:
The 2nd Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival (EIIFF), 2025 was inaugurated at the City Convention Centre, Palace Compound here on Thursday.
Organised by Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) and Manipur State Film & Television Institute (MSF&TI), the festival celebrates the power of cinema in shaping culture and society.
Speaking as the chief guest of the opening ceremony, information and Public Relations minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh highlighted the profound impact of films on individuals, communities, and the state, while emphasising their ability to bring positive change.

He also noted that many him festivals and related events receive sponsorship from Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and suggested that such initiatives should not fall under the purview of Art and Culture Department.
He continued that while numerous Manipuri films have been produced, people have not seen much of them.
"There are reports that some old films have been restored.
If all the produced old films could be restored, it would be a huge asset for the state and film enthusiasts," he added.
On the occasion, the minister also honoured Aribam Syam Sharma, the Doyen of Manipuri Cinema, applauding his remarkable contributions to the world of cinema.
He emphasised that language is never a barrier in film, and explained that the performances of actors and the depth of storytelling can transcend linguistic differences, an aspect that makes cinema truly universal.
The festival's opening ceremony also witnessed the release of a special bulletin titled "The Eikhoigi Daily" which will be published daily till the end of the festival.
The opening day also featured presentation of awards with the chief guest, president, and guest of honour distributing accolades to distinguished individuals.
In his speech as the guest of honour, Aribam Syam Sharma expressed hope that the festival would help bring peace to the state.
He recounted how he was able to bring recognition to Manipur at various international film festivals and added that EIIFF is an important platform for the state.
He further recalled his various works which went on to become international acclaimed works and remarked that EIIFF will provide huge impetus for the film makers of a small state like Manipur.
The ceremony was attended by chief secretary PK Singh as the functional president among others.
The festival promises a diverse line-up of films, discussions, and events aimed at fostering cinematic appreciation and cultural exchange.
The festival will conclude on February 9 .
