Homage paid to martyrs of Anglo Manipuri War 1891

A traditional Heitha Leitha and Langban Chara Tamba ritual was held at Tengol Leikai community hall at Khongjom to pay homage to the valiant martyrs of Anglo Manipuri War 1891 .
The ritual of remembering the ancestors through traditional offerings was organised by the Justice Committee on Anglo Manipuri War 1891, Martyrs & Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak (Manipur).
Addressing the gathering, the Justice Committee Chairman, Joychandra Konthoujam asserted that the unity and integrity of Manipur will remain intact only when the elected people's representatives and civil society organizations strive selflessly for the welfare of the State.
The development and future of the State entirely depend on how the elected leaders, CSOs and other stakeholders carry out their responsibilities diligently, he said.
Recalling the episodes in history on how the forefathers fought valiantly for the protection of the integrity of the motherland Manipur, he expressed grave concern over today's scenario of Manipur which is filled with pain and suffering.
He underscored the importance of following the footsteps of the forefathers for the restoration of peace and harmony in the State and urged all to make collective efforts for the cause.
Today's ritual was attended by social activist, Ningthoujam Oxford; Manipuri Bangladesh Youth Cultural Organization secretary.
Konthoujam Ranjit; FPMC secretary, Olen Sapam; Samaram GP member, Heigrujam Urirei; Tengol Leikai Meira Paibi secretary, Laishram Tombiton; descendants of Mejor Heirakhongjaba Heirangkhongjam Ahanjao Meitei and Huirem Gourachandra Meitei as the presidium members.
