Tree plantation marks WED observance across state

As in other parts of the globe, several organisations on Wednesday observed World Environment Day on the theme 'Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience' in different parts of the state by planting tree saplings.
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) organised a tree plantation programme at Awa Ching and other places to mark the World Environment Day as Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) concluded its 'Shanghallasi Kangleipak' tree plantation campaign that began from June 1.Tree saplings were planted at Hararou, Samaram, Phumlou and Toubul villages by members of the union.
Kanglei Khunung Eshei Khunphamlen observed World Environment Day at Eshing Thembi Mapal Khul in Imphal East district with Rajya Sabha MP Leisemba Sanajaoba and 'Angom Ningthou' Poireiton leading the participants in planting trees saplings.
On the other hand, Sangai Trust Foundation in association with Leima Chanu Nawa Tengbang Lup and Social Youth Club, Kyamgei Khoirom Leikai planted around 100 saplings along the bank of Imphal River in connection with World Environment Day under the global theme as well as "Plant a tree for a better future".
The observance was also attended by RIMS Department of Medicine former head and Lup founder president Professor Dr S Bha-gyabati Devi, and Lup and Social Youth Club members.
Tree saplings were planted at the campus of Thambalkhong Government Junior High School.
Meanwhile, Youth Front Social Development Organisation planted saplings at Thoubal Ningthou Lai Lampak, while YSCCIC Club, Porompat Ayangpalli, and Khurai & Lamlong Keithel Development Committee planted trees around Lamlong Keithel in connection with the World Environment Day observance.
Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) and Wakhallol Mannaba Apunba (WAMA) also planted around 400 tree saplings at Ising Chaibi Mathak and Wakha Leima along Nongmaijing forest range.
On the other hand, Savio English Higher Secondary School and Meitei Huyen Lanlong Sintam Sanglen, UFO Thangmeiband Branch planted around 150 tree saplings at Thangmeiband Cheiraoching and Sunshine Computer Institute, Yairipok Bazar observed World Environment Day by planting tree saplings while teaching staff members and students of Alpha BCI Memorial Academy, Thangmeiband observed the day along with a cycle rally and plantation drive.
Staffers and students of Debchan English School Patsoi Part IV conducted cleanliness drive and planted tree saplings as a part of the observance besides conducting a painting competition on the theme 'The warming earth'.
Manipur Police Training College (MPTC) observed World Environment Day on Wednesday during which around 300 saplings of different varieties were planted around its complex in Pangei.
The observance function was attended by ADGP (training) Arvind Kumar, MPTC director in-charge M Pradip, assistant director S Gautam Singh and DFO (central) Ganesh Nagarajan as presidium members.
Central Agricultural University (CAU) also observed World Environment Day on the theme 'Land restoration, desertification and drought' by carrying out tree plantation drive around CAU complex under the leadership of vice chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra.
In connection with World Environment Day observance, Social Youth Club, Irom Meijrao and Erika Multipurpose Cooperative Society in coordination District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West conducted a one-day legal awareness programme cum interaction cum plantation drive at Irom Meijaro while Waiton Gram Panchayat in coordination with Mangal, Lainingthou, Malemnganbi and Lam-eithanbi village level federations planted around 200 saplings in connection with World Environment Day.
On the other hand, Semgat Sagat Apunba Nupi Lup, Wakhong observed World Environment Day and planted saplings at Wahoupung Chingdum in Imphal East district as village volunteers in coordination with forest department conducted tree plantation drive at Tokpa Ching in Kakching district to observe World Environment Day.
