AR seizes areca nuts worth Rs 2.4 Cr

Assam Rifles captured a huge consignment of 350 sacks of illegal areca nuts worth Rs 2.4 crore at Khuga village of Churachandpur district on November 1 .
As per a press release issued by IGAR (S), three goods carrier trucks and one Tata DI loaded with illegal areca nuts attempted to cross Khuga village at around 2 am on the fateful day.
Acting on specific input from sources, Assam Rifles launched a column to foil the smuggling.
The troops intercepted the convoy at the vehicle check post established at Khuga.
Upon checking, the vehicles were found loaded with 350 sacks of illegal areca nuts hidden beneath covers and cartons.
All four vehicles were detained and handed over to Divisional Forest Officer, Churachandpur after a joint interrogation by Assam Rifles and police.
