Imphal, July 04 2024:
Terming the fiery speech of Inner Manipur MP professor Bimol Akoijam as an act of enhancing personal profile, BJP Manipur Pradesh senior general secretary K Sarat opined that shouting in the parliament would bring no substantial changes, and urged the MP to provide suggestions that could help in resolving the crisis.
Addressing the media party's Thambal Shanglen office, here, on Thursday, Sarat criticised MP Bimol for terming the Prime Minister's speech on the Manipur issue in the Rajya Sabha as fooling the people of the state while explaining that the PM never stated that the crisis has been controlled to some extent, and that the situation is gradually improving and normalcy returning.
BJP strongly condemn Bimol Akoijam for twisting the words of the PM as he should have provided constructive suggestions to resolve the crisis, Sarat said, adding that there is no meaning for electing him as the MP as he did not bring up any of the current issues of the state in the Parliament.
Sarat further said that Bimol Akoijam's shouting in the Parliament without bringing up core issues like NRC, border fencing and SoO agreement would not help solve the crisis.
He contended that the party would have commended MP Bimol if he, like Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, brought up issues like NRC and FMR in the Lok Sabha.
Sarat also censured opposition MPs for staging walk out when PM Modi was about to talk on the Manipur crisis during the no confidence motion debate in the last term.
Chipping in, BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson L Bashanta said that MP Bimol Akoijam's statement to the media has misled the public.
As an MP, he should not have said that abrogating the SoO agreement is prerogative of the state government.
He should also be aware that the state government's communication to the Centre notifying its intention to pull out from the tripartite talk and the government's stand remains the same, Bashanta added.
On the other hand, he said, PM Modi had spoken three times on Manipur crisis.
At the same time, Bimol Akojam did not bring up in the parliament the points he promised in the run up to the Lok Sabha election, he said and urged the MP to provide suggestions for solution instead of shouting in the Parliament.
The government is working towards developing the state and restoring normalcy, maintained the spokesman.
