Dr SN Puri, Vice-Chancellor, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal has been conferred the Academic Leadership Award during the Agriculture Leadership Summit, 2010 held at National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC), Pusa, New Delhi on September 29 .
Dr SN Puri was honoured with the Award by Punjab Governor Shivraj Singh for his brave intervention for raising the academic standard of the CAU, and equal emphasis on all the three facets of the University's Education, Research and Extension while taking up developmental activities.
Dr Puri took the initiative to establish two more new colleges namely the College of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Technology, Ranipal, Sikkim and the College of Post Graduate Studies, Umiam, Meghalaya, highlighted while attributing efforts of Dr Puri for starting Post Graduate level studies in the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Selesih, Mizoram, College of Horticulture & Forestry, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh and College of Fisheries, Lembuchera, Tripura.
Dr.Puri, a veteran Entomologist has been decorated several position of excellence in his career and hence has been responsible for many path breaking innovations in respective studies.
He was responsible for establishing several statutory bodies in CAU.
Under his able leadership, the University gained many infrastructure facilities such as modern laboratories, instruments, several buildings among many other things.
It is also required to mention that the performance of students of the University in the common entrance examination for admission in Post Graduate in various Universities & Institutes conducted by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) was consistently very good for the last two years.
