Imphal, February 02 2026:
The fortnight-long SAKSHAM 2026 campaign, focused on "Conserve Oil and Gas, Go Green", was inaugurated today at Manipur College, with a call to judiciously use dwindling natural resources.
The campaign, running till February 15, is being organised by the Consumers Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD), Government of Manipur in collaboration with Public Sector Oil and Gas Companies operating in Manipur under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India.
The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including K Bono Singh, Director, CAF&PD, Manipur; Prof Aribam Devadash Sharma, Principal, Manipur College; Rajkumar Mohen Singh, State Level Coordinator, Oil Industry Manipur; and Haobam Bobo Singh, OSD, CAF&PD.
Speaking on the occasion, K Bono highlighted India's growing energy demands and the need to conserve oil and gas for future generations.
He also emphasized the urgent need to create awareness among the public on the judicious and responsible use of limited natural resources such as oil and natural gas, so that these resources can be preserved for future generations.
"Developed countries are shifting gears, promoting renewables like wind, solar, and electric vehicles to ditch non-renewable energy.
But here's the catch- global oil and gas reserves might dry up in 50-70 years, and coal's not far behind, lasting 70-100 years", he added.
Referring to global statistics, Bono Singh said that India is currently the third-largest consumer of oil and gas, and may become the largest consumer in the next 20-30 years.
"With domestic production falling short, we are shelling out big bucks on imports.
That's why SAKSHAM Fortnight is being observed across the country to spread the word on fuel conservation- it's time to be smart about energy", he added.
The event concluded with attendees taking a pledge to conserve energy for a sustainable future.
