Ukhrul, August 01 2024:
In line with the community participation week, a programme was held today at Ngacham Hall, District Hospital Ukhrul today as a part of 100 Days Special Awareness Campaign under SANKALP: HEW focusing on women centric issues.
The programme was organised by the District Administration Ukhrul in collaboration with Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and One Stop Centre (OSC) .
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Ukhrul Kengoo Zuringla stressed on making concerted efforts to deliver justice to people, especially to the vulnerable and weaker sections of the society.
In this regard, the role of District Level Officers (DLOs) and police is vital to ensure that justice is delivered, the DC remarked.
The DC urged all to come forward to report any case of women and child abuse to the police to make the society a safe haven for them.
At the same time, the police have to ensure that the identity of the reporter is not disclosed, she added.
Talking about molestation cases and the pain, trauma and insecurity endured by these victims, the DC said that One Stop Centre (OSC) under Social Welfare Department has been established within the premise of District Hospital Ukhrul to provide integrated support and assistance to the victims who have experienced such unfortunate incidents in private as well as public space.
The Central Administrator of OSC Ukhrul, Chonchuirinmayo Luithui while speaking at the occasion said that OSC is a part of the umbrella scheme 'Mission Shakti', an integrated women empowerment programme under the the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
According to her, 113 cases have been registered in the OSC since it started functioning from 2019 .
Stating that there has been an exponential rise in the number of distress calls over the past two years, she said the majority of the complaints are of domestic abuse.
To address such cases, the centre is providing emergency responses such as rescue services, medical assistance, facilitating lodging of FIR/ NCR/DIR, psycho-social counselling, legal aid and counselling and temporary shelter services.
She maintained that it is important to work with different stakeholders as these victims are not willing to go to the police and file complaints even in extreme cases for fear of stigmatization by the society and they are dependent on their abusers financially and other key factors.
Today's programme was also attended by eminent Government officials of the district.
