Birth centenary of L Samarendra observed in Tripura

The birth centenary celebration of noted Manipuri poet Laishram Samarendra was held on June 30 at the Agartala Press Club Auditorium, Tripura, organised jointly by the Laishram Samarendra Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, Imphal, and the Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF), Tripura.
According to a release issued by PAWF Tripura, the programme was attended by Sahitya Akademi Awardee and convenor of the celebration committee, Saratchandra Thiyam as the chief guest, while PAWF Tripura president Kshetrimayum Madhabi presided over the function.
Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura, general secretary Seleibam Khelamohan attended as the guest of honour.
The event began with recitation of poems written by Laishram Samarendra, "Ching Kasi Ngasidi" and "Barunigi Ahing", by his granddaughter Shija Yengkhom and Ishi March Akham.
PAWF Tripura assistant secretary Ahingsangbam Sarit delivered the welcome address, while celebration committee member Rakesh Naorem delivered the keynote address highlighting the contribution of Laishram Samarendra to Manipuri literature.
During the programme, Sarda Laishram, Dr Nando Ningombam, Wangkhem Birmangal and Tongbram Amarjit spoke on the topic "Life and Work of Laishram Samarendra", discussing his literary journey and contributions.
The second session featured a poets' meet moderated by noted Tripura poet Thangjam Rathindra, with participation from 18 poets from Tripura and Manipur.
The celebration paid tribute to the literary legacy of Laishram Samarendra and his enduring contribution to Manipuri poetry and culture.
