Imphal, August 30 2026: Saying that art and culture have been contributing significantly toward restoring peace in the State, Keishamthong Assembly Constituency MLA Nishikant Sapam has underscored the need to preserve the State's traditional dance, music and Sankirtan.

A training programme cum production of Dash-Avatar (A Female Choir) was held today at Gurumayum Mandop, Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai with financial assistance from the Chief Ministergi Artiste-Singgi Tengbang 2025-26 .

Speaking at the programme organised by the Sheidamkol, MLA Nishi-kant Sapam said that art and culture have been contributing significantly toward restoration of peace.

The art and culture of Manipur are quite unique and they are very different from the arts and cultures of other States of India, and this is our identity, he said.

"Any event held to promote India as a tourism destination always features Manipuri traditional dance, music and Thang-Ta.

This is a matter of immense pride for all of us", Nishikant said.

"In order to preserve and promote our unique art and culture, the younger generations must be taught this rich legacy", he said.

Nishikant later distributed certificates to the artistes who took part in the programme where the new production Dash-Avatar was also presented.

Eminent theatre director and Manipur State Kala Akademi awardee Dr Lamabam Gojendra and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Sougrakpam Hemanta attended the programme as president and guest of honour respectively.
