Imphal, July 30: Former president and spokesman of AMSU P Premananda today said that if the blockades on the two lifelines of the State, NH-39 and NH-53 are not lifted immediately then AMSU would launch a counter blockade in Assam with the help and co-operation of the Karbi Students Association and other student organizations of the Northeast.

Speaking to newsmen at Johnstone Higher Secondary School today, the student leader said a number of organizations and associations have been using the two National Highways as tool for bargaining and to air their demands.

Such tactics of holding the whole people of the State to ransom by using the NHs have put the people to great inconveniences, he added.

Appealing for the immediate suspension of the blockade on the said NHs, Premananda said if the blockade is not lifted then AMSU would impose a counter blockade at Assam.

The modalities of imposing the counter blockade are ready, he added.

The student leader further said a meeting was held at Diphu yesterday to chalk out means to counter the blockades.

The meeting was attended by leaders of AMSU and other student organizations and Manipuri representatives who live outside the State.

The meeting resolved to unitedly meet any eventualities arising out of the ceasefire extension outside Nagaland, said Premananda.

The Karbi Students� Association has also appealed to the organizations concerned to lift the blockade on the highways.

Earlier in the day a meeting of all students leaders including of Manipur University was held at Johnstone Higher Secondary School.

The meeting noted that the announcement of the Centre that the ceasefire would be restricted to Nagaland only is not clear and there are too many points not spelt out.

The meeting resolved to press the Union Government to issue an official statement that the ceasefire extension has been withdrawn without any condition and with no strings attached.
