Imphal, May 30: In a gruesome incident a twenty six year old man was killed and another seriously injured when their eldest brother identified as Md Orkar alias Idris Ali (45) shot them with a double barrel gun at Paobitek under Wangoi PS this morning.

The deceased person has been identified as Md Sanatomba while the injured is one Md Nahayai alias Laihajuddin (33).The incident occurred when Md Orkar took out a double barrel gun and shot his two younger brothers following an altercation over the felling of bamboo plants which were grown at the back of Orkar's residence.

Talking to mediapersons Paobitek Young Social Club gen secy Md Islamudin who witnessed the shooting said that Orkar had come to his residence this morning and asked him to come and stop his two brothers who were cutting down bamboos at the back of his house and also threatened to take drastic action against them if they do not stop cutting the bamboos within the next twenty minutes.

He also said that the plot where the bamboos were grown was yet to be distributed among the brothers and therefore his younger brothers had no right to cut down the bamboo trees grown on the said plot.

Sensing the gravity of the situation, Islamuddin immediately rushed to the spot where the two brothers were cutting bamboos along with their wives and talked to them.

To everyone's surprise, Orkar came to the spot with a double barrel gun and began firing injuring his youngest brother Nahayai on the shoulder.

Orkar than turned towards Sanatomba and shot him on the chest after a hot chase near a pond located nearby.

Locals who rushed on hearing the gun shots immediately took the two injured persons to RIMS hospital.

However Sanatomba died on the way.

As report of the death of Sanatomba spread, an infuriated mob which had gathered in the area converged on the house of Md Orkar and his mother's residence and set ablaze the two houses after dismantling them.

On receiving reports about the incident, Wangoi police personnel and Imphal West commandos rushed in and tired to bring the situation under control by firing tear gas, rubber bullets and resorting to blank firing.

Two persons were injured during the police action.

The two injured persons are Maulana Rahimuddin (75) and Md Akbar (26).According to reports received from police, the security personnel resorted to firing as the locals attacked them and the fire brigade team with stones in their bid to stop them from dousing the fire.

Sanatomba's body was handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS today.

Meanwhile, Orkar has surrendered to the Wangoi PS along with the double barrel gun.
