Imphal, August 29 2026: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand today hosted outgoing Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel at his official residence this evening.

The Chief Secretary was accompanied by his wife on the occasion.

The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Dr Goel for his dedication and selfless service towards the welfare of the people of Manipur.

He highlighted Dr Goel's significant contributions during his tenure as the Chief Secretary, particularly noting his sincere efforts towards the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the restoration of peace in the State.

The Chief Minister extended his best wishes to Dr Goel for his future endeavours, long life and good health.

Mentioned may be made that Dr Puneet Kumar Goel has been serving as Chief Secretary of Manipur since July 21, 2025 and is set to retire on August 31, 2026 .

Meanwhile, senior bureaucrat Rajeev Singh Thakur is tipped to be the new Chief Secretary of conflict-ridden Manipur, offi- cials said on Saturday (August 29, 2026), reports The Hindu.

Mr Thakur, a 1995 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Rajasthan cadre, currently works at Niti Aayog.

The Centre on Friday approved his inter-cadre deputation from Rajasthan to the Manipur cadre up to June 30, 2029, the date of his superannuation, an order issued by the Personnel Ministry said.

Mr Thakur is likely to succeed Puneet Kumar Goyal, who will superannuate on August 31 .
