Imphal, June 29: Fishery Minister N Mangi Singh today informed the House that a sum of Rs 300 would be provided every month to each of the fishermen whose source of income have deprived following restriction imposed on fishing at the Takmu Commercial Fishing Farm is by the Fishery Department for a period of three months.

The Minister announced this while replying to a Calling Attention motion raised by Thanga A/C MLA S Ibohal.

The Minister said although restriction have been imposed on catching fish, the fishermen would be compensated by giving Rs 300 each for three months, i.e.June, July and August.

The amount would be extended from the Centrally sponsored-Saving Cum Relief Scheme.

A survey would be conducted very soon to find out the number of beneficiaries.

The reason for imposition restriction on fishing activities in the said farm is due to the fact that the period from July to August is the season for the fishes hatch their eggs, the Minister informed, while asserting that this arrangement is being made with the objective of increasing fish production under the Manipur Fishery Act, 1988.He further clarified that the restriction has been imposed only in Takmu Commercial Fishing Farm as it is under the Government and not in other parts of the Loktak Lake where fishermen are still free to carry out their activities.

Delhi Bhavan: Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has stated that his Government is taking up steps for renovating the Bir Tikendrajit Bhavan at New Delhi in response to the observations made by MLA Y Erabot Singh on the pathetic condition of the Bhavan which was inaugurated not long ago.

When Erabot pointed out that the doors, windows, electrical fitting, lift and overhead water tanks in the new Bhavan are in pathetic condition during the half an hour long discussion session during proceeding of the ongoing Assembly sitting today, the Chief Minister said that he is aware of the present condition of the Bhavan and has consequently taken up steps to rectify the matters overlooked by the previous Government.

He informed that the said Bhavan was inaugurated during the last President Rule in the State and all the responsibilities for construction of the Bhavan was entrusted to CPWD.

Not satisfied with the reply given by the Chief Minister, the MLA asserted that even if the task was handed over to CPWD, the officials of the State PWD should have the knowledge.
