Imphal, October 28 2025:
Tensions continue to run high in Churachandpur as suspected cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) brutally beat the chief of T Khonomphai Village to death at Kholejang village, under Henglep Sub-Division in Churachandpur.
He succumbed to his injuries within hours of the brutal assault.
The deceased has been identified as Mangthang Haokip (50), s/o (L) Jangsei Haokip of T Khonomphai village.
According to well-placed sources, the village chief was abducted by suspected UKNA cadres from his own village around 4.30 pm yesterday for a supposed "talk" .

However, around 5 pm, he was found lying in a pool of blood at Kholejang village, following which locals rushed him to Churachandpur district hospital for treatment.
He succumbed to his injuries en route, sources said.
Another report said that the body was subsequently taken back to his village.
Henglep police have registered a case regarding the incident for investigation.
Notably, UKNA is not a signatory to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement signed between Kuki militant groups and the Government of India.
The Henglep Headquarters Area Chiefs' Association has condemned the incident, terming it "unfortunate", at a time when the community has been undergoing "untold hardship owing to ethnic clashes over the last two years" .
In June this year, at least four people, including an elderly woman, were killed in an ambush carried out by the UKNA in the district.
Among those killed was a leader of the Kuki National Organisation/Kuki National Army (KNO/KNA) .
