Mortal remains of PLA Captain laid to rest

The last rites and funeral of slain PLA Captain Oinam Babu alias Gulu was held at Heirok Part-I today.
With fitting tributes, his mortal remains were buried on the bank of Heirok River near Heirok Part-I Umang Laikol.
Captain Gulu hailed from Jiribam's Kadamtala.
He was among three killed in a gunfight between cadres of PREPAK (Pro), PLA and cadres of KNA(B) and PDF on October 23 at the Indo-Myanmar border.
The gunfight on October 23 morning occurred near border pillar number 72, near Chandel's Laijang village.
The other two who were killed in the gunfight were cadres of PREPAK (Pro) identified as Lance Corporal Nongmaithem Bonysana alias Nongdol and Red Army Captain Wahengbam Saratkumar alias Sopaiba.

During the funeral today, the Central Committee of the RPF/PLA announced the promotion of Captain Oinam Babu alias Gulu to Major posthumously.
Before the funeral today, a large number of people paid floral tribute to the mortal remains of Captain Oinam Babu at Heirok Part-I community hall.
A procession carrying the mortal remains was also taken out before the funeral.
The procession from Heirok Part-I proceeded towards Wangjing, Thoubal, Yairi-pok, Pechi, Ukhongshang, Salungpham and Kairem-bikhok before culminating at Heirok Part-I again.
During the procession, people came out from their homes and paid their respect to the slain Captain.
The funeral on the bank of Heirok river took place at around 10 am.
His remains were buried at Heirok for he was fond of the people of Heirok when he was alive.
Family members, well wishers and the PLA gave fitting tributes to Captain Gulu and his life story was read out at the funeral.
His father, wife, two daughters, sisters and many other immediate family members attended the funeral.
Notably, the remains of two cadres of PREPAK (Pro) and Gulu were handed over to 5 Assam Rifles on October 24 .
The remains were taken by the 21 Assam Rifles and Machi police which approached Pallel police to hand over the bodies at night.
After Pallel police refused to receive the bodies, Machi police then handed them over to the families.
The last rites and funeral of the two cadres of PREPAK (Pro) were held at Thongak Lairembi Chingkhong, Iroishemba yesterday.
