Imphal, September 26 2026: Accompanied by Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam, Chief Minister Y Khemchand inaugurated the newly constructed River Front Garden along the stretch from Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak to Ngakraba Bridge, as part of the Nambul River Rejuvenation Programme.

The garden also includes an open gym equipped with basic fitness facilities, along with resting areas for visitors.

The project was taken up by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change under the National River Conservation Plan of the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Addressing the function as chief guest, the Chief Minister said that stake-holders, clubs and residents living along the Nambul River have an important role to play in keeping the river clean and maintaining its ecological health.

Appealing to the people to extend their cooperation to the efforts to keep the Nambul River clean, the Chief Minister said that the river rejuvenation efforts are also aimed at protecting Loktak Lake, the pride of Manipur and which provides livelihood to many.

He said that the mission is being implemented not only to keep Loktak Lake clean but also to ensure that the water flowing into the lake through the Nambul River remains clean.

Further appealing to the people not to dump garbage in the river and along its banks, he said that keeping the river and its surroundings clean would ultimately benefit the people.

He called upon everyone to extend full support to the various initiatives being undertaken by the Government for the conservation of the Nambul River and Loktak Lake.

The Chief Minister also said that he would extend maximum assistance to the road repair and construction works being undertaken in Keishamthong by Nishikant.

The programme was also attended by Director of Environment and Climate Change Dr Tourangbam Brajakumar Singh, and several other distinguished guests.
