Imphal, September 24 2024:
Makhuam (Marangjing) village and Charoi Pandongba village have lifted the ban imposed on railway construction works after an MoU was signed today by the two villages, Government of Manipur represented by Dipu Gangmei, Chairman HAC and Samuel, Deputy Chief Engineer NF Railway, Imphal, with the consent of the concerned Railway Minister, Government of India.
Notably, railway construction works were stopped for almost two years since December 2022 following the authorities' failure to provide compensation for the loss of life and properties caused by a massive and disastrous landslide that occurred on the night of July 29, 2022 .

With the signing of the MoU, the authorities agreed to release compensation for the affected families.
After compensation disputes halted the railway construction works, the railway project resumed following interventions by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and MLA Dinganglung Gang-mei.
Dinganglung Gangmei said, "Cooperation among CSOs, villagers and the NF Railway is necessary to ensure unhindered access to essential commodities amid the ongoing inter-community crisis" .
This development marks a significant step towards a brighter future for the region, he added.
