Ukhrul, April 23 2026:
Condemning the heavy gunfire and bombing at Sinakeithei village yesterday which left one injured, the Working Committee of Tangkhul Naga Long has demanded the State and Central Government to flush out Kuki Suspension of Operations (SoO) cadres and initiate area domination exercises.
27 year old Chihanngam Rungsung was shot in the leg during yesterday's "act of terror" and is currently undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, Ukhrul, as per the TNL press release.
The Working Committee of TNL has urged both the State and Central Governments to take immediate and decisive action and take the Kuki armed cadres operating under SoO to task for violating the agreement entered with the Government of India without delay.
The Government must also establish full control over the affected areas, particularly in Kuki villages within the conflict zones of Ukhrul, Kamjong and adjoining areas of Kangpokpi district, where armed militants continue to operate openly, said the TNL.
The press statement has accused Kuki SoO cadres of being on a violent rampage, attacking Tangkhul Naga villages in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts since the outbreak of conflict at Litan on February 8, 2026 .
TNL further said that Kuki militants, backed by certain Kuki villages including Yaolen, Mangkot Chepu, Shangkai, Thawai Kuki, Zalenbung, Lamlai Chingphei, Mollen Kamsei, Shongphel, Khomonnom, Sijang, Leplen, Shongmun, Mollam, Bungpi, H Langjol, Molnoum, Moulsohoi, Pashong and Dongsum, have effectively blocked free movement along National Highway 202-A, a vital route for the region.
It also recalled repeated incidents along NH 202-A, including abduction and harassment of innocent passengers, extortion of transporters, and ambushes on civilian vehicles, which have resulted in loss of lives and created widespread fear among peaceful Tangkhul villagers.
Additionally, the TNL pointed out that for nearly three months, the situation created by Kuki SoO cadres has severely affected the survival of Tangkhul Nagas in Ukhrul and Kamjong and people are facing immense hardship and living under constant fear.
Though the Tangkhul Naga community has shown great restraint despite continuous provocation, these acts of terror cannot be tolerated any longer, said the TNL .
Demanding resolute action from the Government, the TNL has cautioned that failure to act decisively will only worsen the situation.
