The Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretary Y Indira Devi, also the Returning officer for the Rajya Sabha election, has officially issued notice (Jan 21) of election to elect the lone member of the State on February 7 .
As per the notification, nomination papers may be delivered by a candidate or by any of his/her proposer to either the RO or Asst RO namely M ramani Devi at the Assembly Secretariat in between 11 am and 3 pm within January 28, 2014 .
While scrutiny of the nomination paper(s) would be conducted on January 29 the candidate(s) deciding not to remain in fray for the RS nomination by members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly may withdraw candidacy within 3 pm of january 31, detailed the notice adding that in the event of the election being contested the poll will take place from 9 am till 4 pm of February 7 .
Along with Manipur, elected members of legislative assemblies of 11 States will chose their respective Rajya Sabha members on February 9, with the Meghalaya House set to go to elect its representative in the House of the Elders on February 12 .
In four other States the Rajya Sabha polls would be held on February 2 .
Out of the 16 States which will elect their respective Rajya Sabha members this year, Maharashtra will have the maximum representation at seven followed by Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh at six each, and West Bengal and Chhattisgarh five each.
Manipur, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh will each have only one Rajya Sabha members.
