MoRTH approves Rs 74 Cr for Mayai Lambi

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (NE Zone) has approved the sanction of a total of Rs 74.22 crore for strengthening of existing pavement of NH-136A, Mayai Lambi road.
The approval for the project under Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Mode to revamp the Imphal-Kakching-Lamkhai section of the NH-137A was given today.
This approval for sanction of the Rs 74.22 crore came at a time when people along the Mayai Lambi have been urging the Governor's administration to reconstruct and improve the vital road link.
Notably, locals had recently blocked the road forcing the State Public Works Department to depute its team and workers to patch the broken and dilapidated road.
Now, this approval of the project to strengthen the Imphal-Kakching-Lamkhai section is expected to bring relief to locals along the road and commuters.
As per documents accessed by this paper, the Public Works Department had submitted an estimate of Rs 99.78 crore for the project.
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, however, revised it to Rs 74.22 crore.
The Ministry in its letter intimated that the State Public Works Department shall ensure tenders for the project are strictly invited through e-tendering and in accordance with the procedure prescribed by it.
The physical and financial target set by the Ministry said the project shall be completed by 2027.50 percent of the project costing Rs 36.75 crore shall be completed during 2025-26.The remaining 50 percent shall be completed during 2026-27 costing Rs 36.76 crore.
Rs 71 lakh is earmarked for maintenance during 2027-2030.The project includes provisions such as construction of RCC covered drain and replacement of one cell culvert.
