Imphal, May 21 2014 : In a new development within Trinamool Congress State unit post 16th Lok Sabha election, MLA Khumukcham Joykisan has been elected president of the party which has seven Members in Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Rather than joining either Congress or BJP, TMC has started chalking out strategy to ensure that the party secure more seats in the next Manipur Legislative Assembly election, said the party's legislature wing leader M Kunjo.

Briefing media persons at his Babupara residential quarter this evening, Kunjo announced that Joykisan has been unanimously elected new president of the party.

The party's decision has been informed to TMC high command Mamata Banerjee through email.

Ruling out any possibility of TMC merging with either BJP or Congress, Kunjo dismissed the report published in some sections of media that TMC MLAs were lobbying to join BJP.

Joykisan was elected to Manipur Legislative Assembly for the first time from Thangmeiband A/C.Kh Jiten has also been appointed to the post general secretary (administration).

With the election of new president and general secretary (administration), the party would embark on a new journey from tomorrow, Kunjo said.

Dr I Ibohalbi and Th Shyamkumar were conspicuous by their absence at the press meet where Kh Joykisan, and MLAs K Sarat and Th Bishorejit were also present whereas O Lukhoi is presently out of station.

Nonetheless, party spokesman RK Shivchandra maintained that they (Shyamkumar and Ibohalbi) and the party have not parted ways.

There have been some reshuffling among the party's office bearers so as to strengthen the party and propel it on a new path.

Out of the party's 35 executive members, 10 have joined other parties.

Out of the remaining 25, 19 executive members and five MLAs have been working together.

On being asked whether election of the new president has been approved by the party's high command, Shivchandra said that they would defy the high command's decision in the interest of the people of Manipur in case the reshuffle is not approved.

Even if the high command disapproved the reshuffle, a new political party would be floated and strategies have been already chalked out to ensure election of as many party candidates as possible in the next State Assembly election, said the party leaders present at the press meet.

The inability to fight the Lok Sabha election with the party's full strength, entrusting different works to people of their choice in whimsical manner indicated the high command was little concerned with the affairs of Manipur.

Joykisan claimed that he had talked with former president Kim Gangte who reportedly offered to resign and send her resignation letter to the party's high command.

On the otherhand, sources said development in the State unit TC is a fallout of dissension within the party's rank and file over alleged anti-party activities by two of its MLAs, especially during the Lok sabha polls.
