COCOMI names new coordinator

Imphal, January 21 2025: Khuraijam Athouba has been elected the new coordinator of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) for the term 2025-26 .

The COCOMI has also elected a new batch of office bearers for the term 2025-26.They include Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman as assistant coordinator (finance), Laikhuram Jayenta as assistant coordinator (publicity), Yengkok- pam Dhiren as assistant coordinator (organisation) and Phijam Shyamchand as assistant coordinator (general administration) .

Sanjit Soraisam, Laishram Romesh, Ksh Romesh, Wareppam Second and Mayengbam Dhananjoy too have been elected as executive members. Speaking at a take over ceremony held at their Lamphelpat office today, Khuraijam Athouba said that the COCOMI was formed by several organisations for the welfare of the people of Manipur and to save the State from inimical forces.

He appealed to all the people to put faith in and support COCOMI in its different activities taken up in the collective interest of Manipur.

The newly elected COCOMI coordinator pledged that the committee would not do anything which would betray people's trust and harm the interest of Manipur.

Athouba said that COCOMI is prepared to consult the people before deciding its next course of action.

Former COCOMI coordinator Somorendro Thokchom said that COCOMI was set up by 65 organisations to protect the integrity of Manipur.

Driven by a notion that Manipur will not survive without the Government of India's support, MLAs and Ministers of the State have been acting subservient to the Central Government.

They (Ministers/MLAs) have forgotten that Manipur existed independently for thousands of years, Somorendro said.

The people have been suffering extreme misery as all the politicians are selfish and self-centred, he said.

Instead of acknowledging the contributions of Manipuri people, the Government of India has been waging a proxy war using immigrants as mercenaries, he said.

Even though the violent crisis has been raging for almost two years, no BJP MLA has dared to leave the party.

All the MLAs/Ministers are only interested in contract works, Somorendro said.

Manipur needs politicians who place the State's interests before the party's interest, he added.

Representatives of different organisations were also present at the ceremony.
