Imphal, January 21 2009: Fulfilling one of the long cherished dreams of the people of Manipur, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has launched the Mid-day news bulletin programme of the All India Radio, Imphal during a befitting function at the complex of the broadcasting station here today.

Along with launching of the mid-day news bulletin, AIR Imphal has become the first regional news unit of the North East region to broadcast mid-day news.

The mid-day news bulletin programme in Manipuri which would be broadcast for 5 minutes will be available on Kangla Channel at 12 noon daily and its repeat telecast on the Sangai Channel at 2 pm and 4 pm.

The launching function was attended by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh as chief guest.

Information Minister TN Haokip, Deputy Director General (North East Region-II) of All India Radio C Lalrosanga and Superintendent Engineer of All India Radio, Imphal Md Kamaruddin were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.

Delivering the key note address of the function, Deputy Director of All Indira Radio, Imphal BB Sharma pointed out that the commencement of a mid-day news bulletin programme on All India Radio, Imphal has been a long cherished dream of the people of Manipur and officials of the All India Radio, Imphal have been trying their best to realise the dream of the people.

Subsequent to the approval given by the Director General (News) All India Radio, Dr PK Bandyopadhyay during his visit to Imphal in September last year, the broadcasting of the mid-day news bulletin has been made possible from today, he added.

In his address as chief guest, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh observed that dissemination of information to the people is very essential in a democratic country and news bulletin through Radio is even more important as it can reach out to people living in far flung remote areas.

Over and above the broadcast of news once in the morning and again in the evening, the introduction of the Mid-day news bulletin is a great achievement of the All India Radio, Imphal, he lauded.

Speaking at the occasion, Information TN Haokip said today is not just an important day but also the happiness day of the people of Manipur.

It may be recalled here that All Indira Radio, Imphal was established on August 15, 1963 .
