Cabinet remains indecisive on State PMT

Imphal, July 20 2013 : Though the matter of holding State PMT for selection of MBBS/BDS students was discussed in a Cabinet meeting today, the meeting could not take any definite decision on the matter.

It is expected that the State Cabinet would further discuss the matter in the coming days.

The Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi took up the matter of holding State PMT as a primary agenda after the Su- preme Court quashed the MCI notification for holding a common medical entrance test in the form of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) .

Addressing media persons after the meeting, Government spokesman M Okendro said that the question of holding MBBS/BDS entrance test was deliberated at length.

The Government would observe what other States would do about respective PMTs before taking a decision.

Another round of Ca- binet meeting would be held shortly to discuss the question of holding State PMT.

The Government is also examining all the possible ill effects of changing the Cabinet decision to go by the NEET results for selection of State nominees wishing to study medical courses, Okendro stated.

On the other hand, the Cabinet meeting agreed to lay off the FCI transport contractors selected for the four valley districts as a first step towards implementing the National Food Security Ordinance.

In place of the transport contractors, rice would be lifted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioners.

The Government would also take a decision on the same for the hills districts too shortly.

The Cabinet meeting further agreed to relax the age bar of candidates who would appear in the Manipur Civil Services Combined Examination by five years.

The State Cabinet gave its consent to amend service rules of Ma-nipur Finance Service.

Moreover, district authorities have been entrusted to handle the work of issuing gun licences and driving licences so that people living outside the State cannot obtain these licences, conveyed the spokesman.

The Cabinet further gave its approval to create necessary posts for recruitment of 498 Primary teachers and 130 Hindi Matriculate teachers so that the pending MGEL work for Primary Teachers can be completed.

Another point unanimously agreed by the Cabinet was extension of the service period of VDF by one more year.
